Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to transform real-world ECU firmware into high-performance virtual devices that run on workstations and cloud servers, bridging hardware and software across the vehicle stack.

Qualifications

• 10+ years embedded firmware experience with RTOS-based systems.
• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in CS/EE or related field.
• Expert-level C, strong C++, and production-quality Python skills.
• Deep RTOS fundamentals and mapping to POSIX user-space.
• GDB and hardware/protocol analyzers experience.
• Multi-threaded and multi-core programming expertise.
• Automotive networks (CAN/LIN/Ethernet) and user-space interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve the user-space runtime for production firmware on host machines.
• Hook new ECU firmware to stubbed/modelled libraries (GPIO, CAN, LIN, PWM, etc.).
• Implement functional device models in C or Python when hardware isn’t available.
• Own build scripts, toolchains, and configurations for host binaries and MCU images.
• Extend HIL Pytest suites for virtual configurations and timing validation.
• Diagnose firmware/host discrepancies with GDB and debugging tools.
• Collaborate with middleware/OS and hardware teams to align abstractions.
• Lead design reviews and mentor peers on C/C++/Python best practices.
