Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Staff Electrical Engineer to own end-to-end electrical design for advanced R&D tooling. You will drive power distribution, sensor integration, and safety systems while collaborating with software and mechanical teams to bring first-of-a-kind hardware to life.

You will apply 480VAC expertise, EMI/EMC mitigation, and rigorous testing on the tool floor, with a focus on reliability, compliance, and scalable packaging for high-power environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Mechatronics preferred).
• 10+ years in electrical engineering for industrial/R&D capital equipment.
• Expert in AutoCAD Electrical for schematics and panel layouts.
• Strong knowledge of 480VAC 3-phase systems, NFPA/NIPA codes.
• Experience with EMI/EMC, grounding, and noise control.
• Familiarity with PLCs and industrial fieldbuses for tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical system architecture for complex R&D tools.
• Design and draft electrical schematics and panel layouts.
• Integrate instrumentation, sensors, and power supplies.
• Ensure safety systems and compliance with codes.
• Oversee wiring, testing, FAT, and commissioning.
• Support controls engineers with PLC parameters and HMI.
• Manage external panel shops and component BOMs.
