Job summary

SHEIN U.S. is seeking a Staff Database Engineer I to manage large‑scale, zero‑downtime database environments. You will contribute to reliability, performance, and security of our data infrastructure within the DBRE team, integrating DBA, SRE, and DBRE expertise across global environments.

The role emphasizes incident response, automation, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to design resilient database architectures and ensure data integrity and privacy at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS/IS or related field.
• 4+ years hands-on MySQL database management experience.
• 4+ years of cloud experience (Azure, AWS, or others).
• Strong understanding of distributed and replicated database architectures.
• Proven troubleshooting and ownership of incidents in production databases.
• Experience with scripting (Golang, Shell).
• Knowledge of Linux OS, storage, networking, and related systems.
• Interest in automation and scalable database tooling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain scalable, reliable production database environments across MySQL, ClickHouse, and MongoDB.
• Monitor health, diagnose issues, and implement fixes.
• Tune queries, optimize indexes, and diagnose performance bottlenecks.
• Develop automation scripts and tooling to reduce manual toil.
• Collaborate with developers on database design and architectural decisions.
• Manage upgrades, migrations, and schema changes with minimal disruption.
• Lead incident response, triage, and post‑mortem improvements.
• Plan capacity and benchmark across database technologies.
• Ensure data integrity, high availability, and security compliance.
• Provide 24/7 on‑call support as part of pager rotation.
