Job summary

Vercel is seeking a Staff-level Engineer to lead the design and development of a next-generation Data Platform. You will architect a foundational system powering data across products, including real-time analytics and AI/ML initiatives.

You'll define the technical vision, mentor engineers, and ensure high data governance and reliability, reporting to the Senior Director of Data Engineering. Remote US-focused role with equity and healthcare benefits.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data engineering or related roles with 5+ years at Principal Engineer level.
• Experience operating large-scale data infrastructures in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient with Kafka, ClickHouse, Tinybird, Snowflake and big data frameworks.
• Cloud platform experience and related big data services (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Strong data governance, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Outstanding communication and collaboration across orgs.
• Leadership with mentoring and driving best practices.
• Master's degree preferred; notable contributions a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a next-generation data platform supporting batch and real-time analytics.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership to align data strategy with product goals.
• Define data ingestion, storage, and ETL guidelines; oversee data warehousing (ClickHouse, Tinybird, Snowflake).
• Develop end-to-end solutions; mentor and set engineering standards.
• Work with Security, Compliance, and Legal to ensure data protection and availability.
• Drive architecture decisions and roadmap; evaluate build-vs-buy and vendor integrations.
• Partner with data scientists to support AI/ML workloads and platform enhancements.
• Establish multi-phase roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
