Job summary

Datavant is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and build of a next-generation patient data platform, enabling secure, scalable use of data across multi-tenant, multi-cloud environments.

This hands-on leadership role combines architectural judgement with deep implementation expertise to define how data is ingested, validated, transformed, and served for analytics, product, and AI-driven use cases in a regulated setting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building data-intensive or distributed systems.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
• Deep expertise in distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark or similar).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, CI/CD, and production debugging.
• Experience building systems in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Experience designing multi-tenant systems with focus on isolation, scalability, and reliability.
• Knowledge of data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and development of core data platform capabilities (processing, storage, services).
• Design multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with strong isolation and durability.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems (batch and real-time).
• Define data lifecycle patterns: ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, serving.
• Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks for trust and auditability.
• Design with platform infrastructure in mind: CI/CD, orchestration, observability, automation.
• Make architectural trade-offs across performance, cost, reliability, maintainability.
• Lead high-impact initiatives with ownership from definition to delivery.
• Contribute significantly to production code and set testing/operability standards.
