Job summary

Datavant is a data collaboration platform transforming healthcare data usage. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will lead the design and build of a next-generation patient data platform powering secure, scalable, multi-tenant data in a regulated environment.

You will drive architecture for distributed systems across cloud environments, contribute code, and mentor teams while aligning with product and compliance requirements. This role requires strong leadership and hands-on implementation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building data-intensive or distributed systems.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
• Deep expertise in distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark).
• Strong software fundamentals, including system design, testing, CI/CD, and production debugging.
• Experience in cloud environments (AWS) and storage/compute patterns.
• Experience designing multi-tenant, isolated, scalable systems.
• Understanding of data modeling, pipelines, and data quality enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of core data platform capabilities.
• Design and implement multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with isolation, scalability, and durability.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems across batch and real-time workloads.
• Define and evolve data lifecycle patterns: ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, serving.
• Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks for trust and auditability.
• Design systems that integrate with CI/CD, deployment orchestration, observability, and infra automation.
• Make architectural tradeoffs for performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
• Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives with ownership.
• Contribute significantly to production code and set quality standards.
