Job summary

Datavant is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and build of the next-generation patient data platform. You will develop distributed data systems powering secure, scalable use of data across multi-tenant, multi-cloud environments.

This hands-on leadership role combines architectural judgment with deep implementation expertise, guiding data processing, validation, and serving for analytics, product, and AI-driven use cases in regulated settings.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building data-intensive or distributed systems.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
• Deep expertise in distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including system design, testing, CI/CD, and production debugging.
• Experience in cloud environments (AWS) with storage, compute, and security patterns.
• Experience designing multi-tenant systems with isolation, scalability and reliability.
• Strong data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality enforcement.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive durable technical decisions.
• Track record as a high-impact, hands-on contributor who leads through design and execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of core data platform capabilities across processing, storage, and shared services.
• Design multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with strong isolation and operational durability.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems for batch and real-time workloads.
• Define data lifecycle patterns: ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, serving.
• Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks for trust and auditability.
• Integrate data systems with CI/CD, deployment orchestration, observability, and infra automation.
• Make architectural decisions balancing performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
• Lead high-impact initiatives with ownership from problem definition to solution design.
• Contribute significantly to production code and set standards for quality and operability.
