Job summary

Datavant is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and build of our next-generation patient data platform, developing distributed data systems and platform capabilities that power secure, scalable, and intelligent use of data across a multi-tenant, multi-cloud environment.

This hands-on technical leadership role combines architectural judgment with deep implementation expertise, defining how complex data is processed, validated, and served for analytics, product, and AI-driven use

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building data-intensive or distributed systems.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
• Deep expertise in distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, and CI/CD.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS) and multi-tenant architectures.
• Knowledge of data modeling, pipelines, and data quality enforcement.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive durable technical decisions.
• Proven, hands-on contributor leading through design and execution.
• Experience in regulated environments (healthcare/fintech) and interoperability standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and development of core data platform capabilities.
• Design multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with isolation and scalability.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems for batch and real-time workloads.
• Define data lifecycle processes: ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, serving.
• Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks.
• Design integration with platform infra including CI/CD, observability, and automation.
• Make architectural tradeoffs for performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
• Lead complex initiatives with ownership from problem definition to solution.
• Contribute to production code and set quality/operability standards.
