Job summary

Datavant, the data collaboration platform for healthcare, is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead design and build of the next-generation patient data platform. You will guide distributed data systems across multi-tenant, multi-cloud environments and influence architecture and implementation choices.

This role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership, requiring deep expertise in Spark or comparable tech, cloud platforms, and data modeling to enable analytics, product, and AI-driven

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building data-intensive or distributed systems.
• Proven track record designing and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
• Deep expertise with Spark or similar big data technologies.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, testing, CI/CD, and production debugging.
• Experience in AWS and cloud security patterns.
• Experience designing multi-tenant, scalable, reliable data systems.
• Knowledge of data modeling, pipelines, and data quality.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive durable technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of core data platform capabilities and services.
• Design multi-tenant, multi-cloud data systems with strong isolation and durability.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing across batch and real-time workloads.
• Define data lifecycles: ingestion, validation, transformation, enrichment, serving.
• Establish data quality gates and validation frameworks for trust and auditability.
• Align platform with CI/CD, deployment orchestration, observability, and infra automation.
• Make architectural decisions balancing performance, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
• Lead high-impact initiatives with ownership from problem definition to execution.
• Contribute to production code and set standards for testing and operability.
