Job summary

Mudflap is seeking a Staff Data Engineer and Tech Lead in Palo Alto to design, scale, and govern a modern cloud data platform. You will own ingestion, architecture, governance, and drive cross-functional initiatives with product, operations, and risk teams.

You will mentor engineers, define standards, and advance AI-enabled data workflows. The role blends hands-on technical work with leadership, guiding the team through multi-quarter initiatives while partnering with data science for model

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS or related field.
• 8+ years of data engineering experience, 3+ in senior roles.
• Track record as tech lead owning direction and delivering multi-quarter initiatives.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted and agentic engineering.
• Proven data ingestion and batch/streaming experience.
• Experience with ML deployment infrastructure and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Act as the overall technical leader for data engineering, setting standards.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives end to end and drive to delivery.
• Drive organization-wide technical alignment with engineering leaders.
• Lead AI and agentic workflows in data engineering and transformation.
