Job summary

Mudflap is seeking a Staff Data Engineer, Tech Lead in Palo Alto to design, scale, and govern our cloud-based data platform. You will lead end-to-end data ingestion, architecture, and governance initiatives across the company.

You will mentor engineers, align with product and business leaders, and shape AI-driven data workflows. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic direction in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS or related field.
• 8+ years of data engineering experience, 3+ years in senior roles.
• Proven tech lead delivering multi-quarter initiatives with engineers and partners.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted/agentic engineering and data governance.
• Strong SQL and Python; design reusable data components.
• Experience with data warehouse modeling and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as overall technical leader for data engineering, setting standards.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives end to end from scope to delivery.
• Drive organization-wide technical alignment with staff leadership.
• Lead on AI and agentic data workflows and transformation.
• Architect and scale ingestion frameworks for diverse data sources.
• Own ML deployment infrastructure in partnership with data science teams.
• Define data schemas and enforce governance, quality, lineage, and security.
• Design system-wide data architecture for analytics and operational use cases.
• Mentor engineers and promote AI tooling adoption.
• Drive orchestration and cataloging tooling to improve platform.
