Job summary

Intuit's Consumer Group is hiring a Staff Software Engineer - Data to shape the core data platform for AI-native experiences. You will design, build, and operate high-throughput data pipelines and JVM-based services that process hundreds of terabytes daily with low latency, across Kafka, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software engineering in Scala/Java or JVM language
• 3+ years designing high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems
• 3+ years building data pipelines on cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure)
• Experience with Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, or similar messaging systems
• Proficiency with RPC frameworks like Finagle, gRPC, or Akka
• Strong CI/CD, version control, code review and testing practices
• Experience building reusable frameworks, SDKs, or library code
• Experience with Apache Beam/Dataflow and CDC patterns
• Knowledge of data encryption, governance, and security best practices
• Familiarity with Kubernetes (GKE) and container deployment

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency data frameworks and pipelines
• Develop Scala-based microservices and frameworks using Finagle, Akka, and gRPC
• Build cloud-native data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (Dataflow, BigQuery, Spanner)
• Own and evolve Kafka-based streaming infrastructure with low latency guarantees
• Create unified, type-safe persistence APIs across Spanner, MySQL, and BigQuery
• Develop agentic systems and knowledge graphs to enhance AI-powered experiences
• Implement encryption, access control, and data governance capabilities
• Create self-service developer tooling (CLI, templates, onboarding) for speed and adoption
• Lead architecture reviews and design docs to align across Data org
• Contribute to on-call rotations and build observability into all systems
