Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Secure Compute Platform, focused on multi-tenant, cloud-native compute across public clouds. You will lead the evolution of a scalable, secure runtime built on Kubernetes, delivering reliable workload isolation and lifecycle management for both trusted and untrusted workloads.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant backend, infrastructure, or platform software experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong problem-solving and fast-paced environment adaptability.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise, including controller development and operators.
• Proficiency in Go, with exposure to Scala or C++.
• Experience with multi-tenant architectures and security/isolation patterns.
• Hands-on with secure container runtimes and Linux internals.
• Familiarity with gRPC and Protobuf.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Strong collaboration and technical leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical direction for Secure Compute platform.
• Design and implement platform APIs and Kubernetes controllers.
• Partner with product and platform teams to shape the roadmap.
• Lead high-impact initiatives in scheduling, networking, deployment, and security.
• Drive architectural decisions across teams, ensuring secure by default.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and best practices.
• Own operational excellence, including availability and incident response.
• This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States.
