Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Dallas, TX, seeks a Staff Civil Engineer to join the Transportation Design group. You will lead technical roadway design, drainage, and traffic control tasks on projects, collaborate with an integrated design team, and ensure design quality and timely delivery.

The role requires ABET-credentialed civil engineering education with 3+ years of experience, familiarity with TxDOT projects, and strong skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and associated tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
• OR Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of civil engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
• OR Master Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
• Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
• Has the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines in an organized fashion strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs is strongly preferred.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Embraces ownership of daily tasks and responsibilities.
• Exhibits the ability to meet deadlines and budget strongly preferred.

• Previous experience with TxDOT projects (either as a consultant or TxDOT employee) strongly preferred.
• Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat) (ArcGIS & PowerBI a plus).
• Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, Power GeoPAK & OpenRoads Designer), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Engineers in Training-EIT Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of designers and engineers in the preparation of design details, plans, and drawings to meet project deadlines.
• Perform technical roadway design such as preparing horizontal alignments, profiles, intersections, and interchange layouts.
• Support engineering staff with related design experience in drainage, signing and marking, traffic control and construction sequencing, and illumination.
• Develop design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates in accordance with the latest industry standards.
• Participate in Transportation QA/QC processes for project deliverables and submittals.
• Provide internal and external clients with professional and responsive service.
• Support the Design Department in achieving the Vision & Values of the Transportation Global Practice.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
