Job summary

Burns & McDonnell's Kansas City and NW Arkansas offices are seeking an ambitious Assistant Civil / Traffic Engineer to join our transportation planning team. You will work under a licensed PE and PTOE to assist multidisciplinary project teams delivering world-class traffic designs for public and private clients.

This role covers traffic control design, operations studies, microsimulation, and highway capacity analyses, using software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, PTV

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering program strongly preferred.
• Master's in transportation/traffic engineering preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work analytically in a quantitative environment with strong problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure project success.
• Meet with clients, contractors, and vendors as needed.
• Design traffic control infrastructure (signing, striping, lighting, signals, ITS).
• Develop traffic operations studies, microsimulation models, traffic impact analyses.
• Develop traffic phasing for traffic control plans.
• Gain proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro, PTV Vissim, OpenRoads.
• Perform other duties and comply with policies and standards.
