Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Dallas, TX is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to join project teams across power, process, healthcare and industrial facilities. You will support design and construction efforts under a licensed engineer, helping adapt civil plans to budget and client needs.

Duties include assisting with conceptual design, reviewing drawings, preparing studies, and performing field measurements. Strong communication and CAD skills are essential, as is a collaborative, detail-oriented

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program; ABET preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic CAD skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD) and civil analysis programs.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and problem-solving.
• EIT certification preferred.
• GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in civil design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist in modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assist in designing civil components per project manager requirements.
• Apply basic civil engineering concepts, principles and procedures.
• Assist with collecting data, studies and reports.
• Assist with updating drawings in CAD software under senior engineers.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

ABET accreditation

GPA 3.0 preferred
