Job summary

Salesforce.com, Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Product Engineer to design, build, and own the systems and APIs that power Slackbot’s AI-powered experience for millions of users.

You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-impact features, ensure reliability and performance, and mentor teammates while shaping long-term architecture. You will work on scalable systems, API design, and data integrations, balancing speed and cost with user experience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and shipping web applications with a backend focus.
• Experience with functional or imperative programming languages (PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Go, or C).
• Experience building search infrastructure, large-scale APIs, or AI-powered systems.
• Ability to contribute to technical architecture discussions and drive critical decisions.
• Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and build high-impact features for Slackbot's user base.
• Drive search and intelligence for discovering information across connected sources.
• Deliver high-quality results that measurably impact business and user experience.
• Own team features or core systems and define their long-term health and roadmap.
• Support operations teams by triaging and resolving production issues.
• Mentor engineers, review code, and improve engineering standards across the team.
