Job summary

HighLevel is seeking a Staff Engineer - Workflows (Engine) to own and evolve the orchestration layer that powers automations at scale. Rebuild the engine in Go and Node.js, delivering a modular, high-performance foundation for billions of executions and low-latency guarantees.

You will operate as a hands-on contributor with architectural decision authority, collaborating with SRE and product teams to ensure reliability, testability, and future-proof scalability across the automation platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering in distributed systems.
• Expert in Go and Node.js with microservices experience.
• Strong design for concurrency, retries, and fault tolerance.
• Production-grade database experience (MongoDB, Firestore, or equivalents).
• Cloud experience (GCP, AWS, or Azure) with event-driven services.
• Proven record of measurable performance improvements in latency or throughput.
• Observability and performance profiling skills.
• Open-source contributions or technical writing in distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Re-architecture the workflow engine for high throughput and reliability.
• Design orchestration, state, retries, and guarantees with clear contracts.
• Define interfaces and schemas between engine, triggers, and actions.
• Instrument metrics with SRE for latency, throughput, and failure rate.
• Own the engine runtime incidents, RCA, and prevention with measurable reliability gains.
• Drive migration and rollback safety during rollout.
• Set and uphold engineering standards for clarity and performance.
