Job summary

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for Adaptive Telemetry in the Databases group. This is a remote-first role open to candidates in the USA time zones, with a focus on building scalable telemetry databases and adaptive data solutions.

You will drive technical strategy, own cross-functional delivery, and mentor engineers while balancing latency, cost, and reliability. Familiarity with distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and observability tooling is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering and operating large distributed systems.
• Strong systems-design instincts around latency, availability, scaling and cost.
• Hands-on cloud and platform experience (cloud-native, microservices, containers).
• Proficiency in defining SLOs/SLIs and driving reliability work end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy and roadmap for Adaptive Telemetry and databases.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of large, cross-functional projects.
• Own architecture, reliability, performance and cost for critical systems.
• Define SLOs/SLIs and lead incident response with blameless post-mortems.
• Improve observability, automation and operational readiness.
• Coordinate with Product, Design and other teams to unblock delivery.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and raise engineering standards.
• Represent engineering in cross-team planning and external communications.
