Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Order Platform team. You will shape post-checkout systems covering orders, captures, refunds, and settlement, and drive the technical strategy enabling reliable, scalable merchant and consumer transactions.

You will lead a senior team, define direction, mentor engineers, and own decisions with multi-year impact across high-leverage backend platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Track record building highly available distributed systems.
• Ability to plan technical/execution strategy and write high-quality code.
• Comfort in ambiguity and delivering end-to-end impactful features.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainable tech.
• Advocate technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations, monitoring, on-call readiness, and playbooks.
• Establish code review and design standards and propagate them.
• Mentor engineers and develop talent through feedback and example.
