Snap Inc. in New York is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate our most critical scalable services, including identity, friend graph, and core persistence layers.

You will work across teams to translate product needs into robust, production-ready solutions and ensure high availability and security. We value experience with distributed systems, cloud platforms, and modern programming languages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.
• 9+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience; or a Master’s degree + 8+ year experience; or a PhD + 5+ years of post-grad software development experience.
• 1+ years of experience with technical leadership or acting as the domain-expert to a technical organization.
• Experience with distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate critical scalable services (identity, friend graph, core persistence).
• Collaborate across teams to translate product requirements into robust solutions.
• Test, debug, and ensure production readiness with a focus on availability and security.
• Advocate for best practices in scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
