Job summary

Chainguard is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture and implementation of the Repository team’s core systems, including registries, APIs, and production services. You will own the technical direction, build scalable Go backends, and drive reliability, observability, and performance at scale.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate across teams, and shape how Chainguard expands its artifact platform beyond libraries.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience leading production backend or infrastructure systems.
• Strong Go experience or deep backend systems experience with Go.
• Experience with customer-facing infrastructure such as registries, artifacts, APIs, or developer platforms.
• Production deployment and operations with emphasis on reliability, observability, performance, and tradeoffs.
• Comfort across application and infrastructure layers, including IaC tools like Terraform.
• Excellent communication and collaboration, especially in remote environments; include phrase “bonfires are my jam” in materials.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for Chainguard Repository components such as registries and APIs.
• Design, build, and operate high-availability Go backend services.
• Lead scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for production systems.
• Drive repository architecture decisions and service boundaries for scalable artifact serving.
• Collaborate with Chainguard engineers to extend repository support to more artifact types.
• Mentor engineers and drive design reviews in a fast-moving team.
