Job summary

Chainguard, the trusted source for open source, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer (Repositories) to lead architecture of core repository systems, including registries and APIs, serving artifacts at scale.

This infrastructure-heavy Go backend role combines software engineering with production operations; you will own technical direction, design scalable services, and mentor engineers in a fast-moving team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems with staff-level ownership.
• Strong Go experience or deep backend systems experience with rapid Go ramp-up.
• Experience with customer-facing infrastructure such as registries or APIs at scale.
• Production deployment experience with reliability, observability and performance tradeoffs.
• Comfort across application and infrastructure layers, including Terraform IaC.
• Solid systems instincts and proactive problem-solving for platform health.
• Excellent communication and collaboration, especially remote work; include 'bonfires are my jam' in your materials.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for Chainguard Repository components like registries and serving systems.
• Design, build, and operate high-availability Go backend services for libraries, containers, and APKs.
• Lead scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for production systems.
• Drive architecture decisions and service boundaries for artifact-serving infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers to deliver cohesive repository experiences across artifacts.
• Mentor engineers and elevate design and code-review standards in a fast-moving team.
