Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Online Storage) to drive the technical roadmap for our databases and scale data platforms across multiple regions. You will design scalable datastore components, collaborate with product, infrastructure and SRE, and lead on-call readiness, code quality and talent development.

This role requires deep expertise in relational and key-value databases and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin and distributed systems.
• Strong database fundamentals: MySQL, PostgreSQL, and distributed SQL.
• Cloud experience and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon.
• Design and build scalable datastore components across Relational and KeyValue stores.
• Collaborate with product, infra, and SRE to deliver data infrastructure at scale.
• Lead on-call readiness, monitoring, and incident response.
• Mentor teammates and drive code quality and architecture discussions.
