Job summary

Apaleo is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join its Platform team. You will architect and build scalable backend systems, drive cross-team initiatives from analysis to delivery, and lead architectural decisions with autonomy and ownership across the engineering org.

You will mentor engineers, build internal tooling on AWS and Terraform, and own observability, logging and operational excellence to empower teams to ship faster and more reliably.

• Experience architecting scalable backend systems.
• Ability to identify and scope problems and initiatives.
• Proven track record in leading architectural decisions.
• Experience mentoring engineers to technical excellence.
• Strong observability and operational skills.

Responsibilities

• Architecting and developing scalable, reliable and maintainable backend systems.
• Self-identifying and scoping problems and initiatives, not just executing assigned tickets: assessing impact, prioritisation and timing independently.
• Leading architectural decisions and design discussions with cross-team alignment.
• Driving large, ambiguous, cross-cutting initiatives end to end, including coordination with multiple stakeholders.
• Mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence.
• Building and maintaining internal tools and infrastructure (AWS, Terraform) that empower teams to deliver faster and more reliably.
• Owning observability, logging and operation
