Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Payments team within the Platform organization. You will own the architecture and technical direction of high-volume payment systems, ensuring reliability and scalability as Coinbase expands into new regions and payment methods.

You will mentor engineers, drive roadmaps for integrations and funds-flow across markets, and partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to balance speed and safety in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including payments or high-volume transactional platforms.
• Track record delivering fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale.
• Experience owning platform-level architecture and reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform across global markets.
• Build and evolve distributed systems with fault isolation and observable performance.
• Drive engineering quality with shared frameworks, standards, and pipelines.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead scaling and reliability initiatives and drive incident postmortems for continuous improvement.
• Mentor engineers and provide architectural guidance to accelerate team growth.
