Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Payments team within the Platform organization. You will own architecture for payments infrastructure, APIs, and workflows supporting fiat on- and off-ramps for global markets, ensuring reliability, scalability, and correctness as Coinbase expands into new regions.

Expect to lead multi-year strategy, build distributed systems, and drive high-impact reliability initiatives.

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience, with payments or high-volume tech.
Proven track record architecting fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale.
Led platform-building efforts with reusable services and unified APIs.

Responsibilities

Own multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform.
Build and evolve distributed systems handling high-volume payments with observability and SLOs.
Drive quality with paved roads, shared frameworks, and coding standards across teams.
Translate business requirements into technical solutions with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Ops.
Lead scaling and reliability initiatives and drive improvements from postmortems.
Mentor engineers through design reviews and architectural guidance.
