Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Payments team within the Platform organization. You will own the architecture and technical direction of payments infrastructure, ensuring reliability and scalability across global markets.

You will drive multi-year strategy, build fault-tolerant distributed systems, establish SLOs, and elevate engineering quality while collaborating with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to balance speed and safety.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with payments or high-volume systems.
• Architected fault-tolerant, reliable distributed systems at scale.
• Led platform-building efforts with shared frameworks and unified APIs.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform.
• Build and evolve distributed systems for high-volume payment traffic with clear SLOs.
• Drive engineering quality with shared frameworks and coding standards.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Lead scaling and reliability initiatives and mentor engineers.
