Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team. You will build tools and systems to empower fraud fighting capabilities, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and use analytics to improve performance and quality of deciders.

Qualifications

• Passion for working with cross-functional teams including Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams.
• This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• A technical leader and team builder who can mentor the team in software development best practices.
• Prior experience architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems.
• 6-10+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities and experience mentoring junior engineers.
• A system architect who can see the big picture and envision how business and product requirements can be broken up into system modules or components.
• Expert at synthesizing complex business, product, and technical requirements to consistently produce high quality system designs and software.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team, building tools and systems for fraud fighting capabilities.
• Work with cross-functional teams to adopt and monitor those systems and use analytics to drive decisions on performance and quality.
• Plan and execute large, cross-functional initiatives from definition to delivery, monitoring and maintenance.
• Write high-quality, easily understandable code and designs that are robust and debuggable.
• Review others’ work to maintain high quality; provide constructive feedback across teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers, giving context and ownership of initiative components.
• Incorporate stakeholder needs and advocate for ideas to build common understanding.
• Participate in technical and soft skill evaluations to inform hiring decisions and shape interview requirements.
