Job summary

Affirm is building a scalable, reliable datastore platform for its data infrastructure, spanning OLTP and OLAP systems across critical checkout databases, batch orchestration and analytics tooling.

You will lead the staff engineering efforts to design and implement relational and key-value storage solutions, drive multi-region scalability, and own operational readiness including monitoring and on-call practices.

Qualifications

8+ years of backend systems design, development and launch at scale.
Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
5+ years in database expertise, relational/distributed SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB/Vitess).
Strong knowledge of schema design, query optimization, sharding and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure and SRE teams to deliver roadmap.
Design and build scalable datastore components and multi-region solutions.
Automate migrations, disaster recovery, sharding and performance tuning.
Ensure operational readiness with monitoring, runbooks and on-call readiness.
