Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical roadmap for our Databases (Relational and Key-Value). You will drive scalable, multi-region datastore platforms and partner with product, infra and SRE teams to deliver high-performance solutions for critical financial infrastructure.

The role requires 8+ years in backend systems, strong SQL and cloud DB experience, and a track record of shaping architecture from low-level details to system-wide design.

Qualifications

8+ years designing backend systems at scale with Python or Kotlin.
5+ years in Relational/Distributed SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and cloud DB platforms.
Experience with AWS, Spark, Kubernetes and high-availability architectures.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon.
Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and SRE to align roadmaps.
Design and build scalable datastore components across multi-region deployments.
Develop control planes for automated schema migrations, DR, sharding, and tuning.
Lead cross-team reviews and drive quality standards in code/design.
