Job summary

Atrium Staffing LLC client is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to own the core booking platform and external API infrastructure. This hands-on IC will define backend architecture, lead initiatives, and build scalable systems enabling partners and AI agents to price, hold, book, modify, and cancel hotel experiences.

Qualifications

• Typically 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade backend apps.
• Experience in a high standards engineering organization with strong product thinking.
• Designing and launching complex transactional systems (bookings/payments/orders).
• Designing external-facing APIs and integration platforms for partners.
• Deep understanding of relational databases, distributed systems, and transactional correctness.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams.
• Establish architectural patterns and engineering standards.
• Strong CS fundamentals and problem-solving ability.
• Experience managing production challenges, performance, and reliability.
• Excellent communication to explain complex decisions to stakeholders.
• Hands-on with production code while providing Staff-level leadership.
• Onsite work four days per week in New York City.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, design, and roadmap for core booking platform and external API infra.
• Develop scalable backend services for bookings, pricing, reservations, inventory, and partner integrations.
• Build APIs for distribution partners and AI agents to price, hold, book, modify, cancel experiences.
• Lead development of reliable transactional systems with data consistency and correctness.
• Make architectural decisions on distributed systems, databases, API design, and complex logic.
• Collaborate with leadership on architecture and platform-wide decisions.
• Drive initiatives from design through production deployment and monitoring.
• Establish reusable engineering patterns and best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while contributing production code.
• Work with product and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Design scalable systems for new hospitality experiences and partner ecosystems.
• Identify and implement improvements for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Own complex production issues, migrations, and technical challenges with minimal customer impact.
