Gusto, Inc. is seeking a seasoned full-stack software engineer to join the Growth team and lead AI-powered customer acquisition, onboarding, and lifecycle experiences.

You will shape early concepts through production ownership, spanning frontend, backend, and data integrations in a role built for long-term impact. You will own AI-driven onboarding conversations and email experiences, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate with Product, Data, Design, Marketing, and Platform teams to

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience building and shipping customer-facing product experiences at scale.
• Experience building full-stack systems (frontend, backend, production services) with clear ownership after launch.
• Experience in Growth-related product areas such as onboarding, communications, workflow automation, CRM, lifecycle marketing.
• Strong applied AI fluency, including prompt design, tool integration, conversational experiences, content generation systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate AI-powered Growth experiences across onboarding and lifecycle engagement.
• Own the technical strategy and implementation for an AI Voice Agent that helps onboard customers, including workflows and backend integrations.
• Build and scale AI-driven email systems across the funnel with generation workflows and quality controls.
• Partner with Product, Data, Design, Marketing, and Platform teams to identify Growth opportunities and ship improvements.
• Design reliable APIs, backend services, and frontend experiences supporting personalized onboarding and growth journeys.
• Establish patterns for applied AI development, including prompt design, evaluation, observability, and safe rollout practices.
• Help the team make long-term architectural decisions around conversational systems and outbound workflows.
• Mentor engineers and raise the bar on technical execution and responsibility in AI usage.
