Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to help build scalable AI systems that transform how customers and associates interact with banking products. You will design and deploy AI software, including foundation model training, model inference, and multi-model workflows, leveraging tools like PyTorch, VectorDBs, and SaaS platforms.

You will contribute to a long-term AI strategy, set enterprise-wide architecture standards, and mentor teams across the company while championing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 6–8+ years in AI/ML development
• 8+ years programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java
• Experience deploying scalable and responsible AI on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure or private cloud)
• Experience leading and mentoring multiple engineering teams and influencing stakeholders up to VP level
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to articulate complex AI concepts

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (e.g., AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch)
• Invent and optimize foundation model techniques for performance, cost, latency, and throughput
• Contribute to technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
• Set enterprise-wide AI architecture direction and deployment standards
• Own model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid workloads
• Champion responsible AI principles including transparency and fairness-by-design
• Drive education and best-practices through architecture councils and AI guilds
