Job summary

DeWinter Group is seeking a Staff Accountant in Newton, MA, a permanent role with a hybrid work arrangement. The candidate will lead timely research and resolution of trade deductions, coordinating with Accounting, Sales, and Customer Service in a fast-moving CPG environment.

The role emphasizes accuracy in high-volume deductions and reconciliations across ledgers. The position requires 2+ years in accounting (CPG preferred), a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting/finance experience (CPG, food & beverage, or consumer products preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Practical understanding of CPG trade mechanics (scan-backs, bill-backs, MCBs, off-invoice allowances, penalties).
• Direct experience with credit memo creation, cash application, and GL reconciliation.
• Strong organizational skills to manage high-volume line items with accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication for cross-department coordination.
• Intermediate Excel skills (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data manipulation).

Responsibilities

• Review remittance advice, customer portals, EDI files, and promo schedules to validate or contest deductions.
• Categorize deductions to ensure correct general ledger accounting.
• Issue approved credit memos with audit trails for adjustments.
• Identify invalid claims and build dispute packages with customers.
• Use TPM tools to calculate monthly accruals and reconcile deductions during month-end close.
• Perform monthly reconciliations for bottle deposits and broker commissions.
