Job summary

DeWinter Group is seeking a Staff Accountant in Newton, MA for a hybrid role. You will lead research and resolution of trade deductions across Accounting, Sales, and Customer Service in a fast-paced CPG environment.

You will manage month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting for trade deductions, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve processes.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting or finance experience (CPG, food & beverage, or consumer products preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Understanding of CPG trade mechanics (scan-backs, bill-backs, MCBs, off-invoice allowances).
• Experience with credit memo creation, cash application, and GL reconciliation.
• Strong organizational skills and cross-departmental coordination.
• Clear written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Review remittance advice, portals, EDI files, and promo schedules to validate deductions.
• Categorize deductions for accurate GL accounting and reserves.
• Issue approved credit memos with audit trails; build dispute packages with customers.
• Collaborate with Sales, FP&A, and Supply Chain to verify deductions against contracts and trade plans.
• Maintain trade deduction aging and reconcile to GL; produce analytics by customer, product line, and claim type.
• Support internal/external audits related to trade spend and AR balances.
