Job description

About the Position

Wasatch Equity Partners is seeking a motivated, analytical, and resourceful Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to work across a diverse group of businesses and investments in a dynamic environment where critical thinking, initiative, and problem-solving are highly valued. We're looking for someone who goes beyond completing assigned tasks—someone who is naturally curious, takes ownership of challenges, exercises sound judgment, and has the drive to find solutions independently. The Staff Accountant will work closely with our Accounting Manager and experienced accounting team, supporting financial reporting, accounting operations, and other financial activities. The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with the ambition and independent thinking necessary to take on increasingly complex responsibilities.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications Preferred
  • 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in public accounting, multi-entity accounting, or outsourced accounting services.
  • Familiarity with financial statement preparation and annual audits.
  • Experience working with multiple businesses or accounting systems.
What We’re Looking For

Technical accounting knowledge is important, but we place equal emphasis on the qualities that make someone effective in a dynamic, problem-solving environment.

  • Intuition & Judgment: Recognizes when something doesn't look right, asks the right questions, and knows when to investigate further.
  • Problem-Solving: Enjoys working through unfamiliar challenges, identifying root causes, and finding practical solutions rather than waiting for instructions.
  • Drive & Initiative: Self-motivated, takes ownership of responsibilities, and consistently looks for ways to contribute beyond the minimum requirements.
  • Critical Thinking: Understands the why behind accounting transactions and processes rather than simply following established procedures.
  • Resourcefulness: Knows how to research questions, leverage available resources, and make meaningful progress independently.
  • Accountability: Takes pride in producing accurate work, meeting commitments, and following issues through to resolution.
  • Adaptability & Growth: Learns quickly, welcomes new challenges, and is motivated to expand their knowledge and responsibilities.
  • Collaboration: Communicates effectively, supports teammates, and contributes to a productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate financial records, general ledgers, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Support financial statement preparation, annual audits, and other reporting requirements.
  • Research accounting discrepancies, identify underlying issues, and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and external contacts to obtain information and resolve accounting matters.
  • Provide guidance and review support to accounting clerks as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Take ownership of assigned accounting responsibilities while contributing to broader team objectives.
Why Join Wasatch Equity Partners?

This position offers a broader range of accounting experience than many traditional Staff Accountant roles. Rather than working exclusively within a single company's accounting function, you'll gain exposure to multiple businesses, financial structures, and accounting challenges. Our team values individuals who think critically, take initiative, and contribute ideas. We encourage employees to recognize problems, develop solutions, and continuously improve the way we work. You'll work closely with experienced accounting professionals and have opportunities to develop your technical skills, expand your responsibilities, and grow within the organization. For someone who is motivated to learn, enjoys solving problems, and wants to make a meaningful contribution, this role offers an opportunity to build a strong foundation for long-term career growth. We're changing the lives of our customers and employees one experience at a time.
