Capital Technology Group is seeking a smart Staff Accountant for a hybrid role in Silver Spring, MD. You will support day-to-day accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting under the Controller.

The ideal candidate has an accounting degree, strong communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. Residency in the Washington DC area is required for hybrid work.

Description

Capital Technology Group (CTG) is seeking a smart, motivated, and resourceful Staff Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for recent graduates and early-career professionals who learn quickly, take initiative, and are willing to jump in wherever needed. Professional accounting experience is a plus, but we’re equally interested in someone capable, curious, organized, and eager to learn!

In this role, you will support the Controller and accounting function across day-to-day financial operations, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and other accounting activities. The ideal candidate has experience with general ledger activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records. We are seeking someone detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to develop their accounting expertise in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

To be considered, applicants must reside in the Washington, DC area and be available to work on a hybrid schedule from Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the Accounting inbox and review, process, and enter all Accounts Payable (AP) transactions.
• Prepare, review, and submit Accounts Receivable (AR) invoices to customers in accordance with contract and billing requirements.
• Create, update, and maintain Accounting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and effective accounting processes.
• Review subcontractor labor hours and supporting documentation; communicate with subcontractors and internal personnel to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Support the Controller with general accounting activities, financial reporting, and other accounting-related projects as needed.
• General office support projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Located in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area and willing to come into our Silver Spring, MD office as needed
• Degree in Accounting or related field
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Self-starter with sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and business acumen
• Ability to work independently while also being comfortable asking questions and learning new processes.

Nice to Have Skills

• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and basic data analysis
• Internship or prior work experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Interest in developing knowledge of government contracting

Salary Information

We are committed to offering a competitive salary for this position, with an estimated range of $50k to $65k annually. Please note that this range is intended to provide a general idea of what to expect. The final offer may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors.
