Job summary

The American Library Association (ALA) is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its Finance & Accounting department in Chicago. You will record payments, revenue, and journal entries, assist with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and the annual audit, while serving as a liaison across departments.

Based in our Chicago office with a hybrid schedule, you’ll contribute to accurate financial records and provide dependable support to staff and members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum of two years of relevant accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Dynamics GP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit journal entries and monthly reconciliations to support month-end close.
• Perform daily ecommerce reconciliation and review credit card payments; resolve inquiries.
• Oversee credit activity in iMIS and record banking activity for monthly entries.
• Assist with year-end close and audit; prepare reports and schedules as needed.
• Provide backup support for other Accounting/Finance staff to maintain operations.
