Staff Accountant
Full Time Stuart, FL, US
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other month-end adjustments.
- Perform monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations and maintain supporting general ledger schedules.
- Assist with monthly and year-end close and the preparation of financial reports and statements.
- Apply cost accounting principles to track, reconcile, and analyze project costs, including labor, subcontractor costs, equipment, and other direct expenses.
- Review cost coding and allocations to ensure expenses are recorded accurately to the appropriate projects and accounts.
- Prepare job cost reports, investigate cost variances, and work with project managers to resolve discrepancies and support accurate project reporting.
- Perform intercompany reconciliations and assist with recording transactions among multiple entities.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and sales and use tax reporting.
- Review general ledger activity, investigate unusual transactions, and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain organized accounting records and provide supporting documentation for audit requests.
- Collaborate with accounting staff and other departments and assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of cost accounting is required, including job costing, direct and indirect cost allocation, project cost analysis, and variance analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Two to four years of accounting experience preferred, with hands-on experience in cost accounting or project accounting.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and basic U.S. GAAP principles.
- Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and accounts payable and receivable transactions.
- Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, and analysis of large data sets.
- Experience with ERP or accounting software; Acumatica experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work with limited supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Compensation
Salary is dependent on experience.
Position Type and Expected Hours
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
