Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Maintain financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, GL entries, and payroll records.
  • Monitor budgets and ensure budgetary compliance throughout the year.
  • Prepare financial statements, reports and analyses for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Balance all financial and accounting reports at month end.
  • Collaborate with auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance.
  • Assist and supervise vendor relationships, process invoices, reconcile statements.
  • Assist Director of Finance with financial analysis to support decisions.
  • Utilize accounting software and financial tools to streamline processes.
  • Provide training and support to staff on financial procedures.
  • Maintain confidential files and LEA/BSC records.
  • Support purchasing, invoicing, and grant fund requests as directed.

General Description

The role of The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the financial operations of the school district. This position involves managing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Staff Accountant will provide quality services to all departments, and work effectively with all constituents of the DIISD, local school districts and Business Service Consortium staff.

Essential Functions
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.
  • Able to effectively give and take direction, as well as work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, schools and community constituents.
  • Financial Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll records.
  • Budget Monitoring: Assist in budget preparation and monitor budgetary compliance throughout the fiscal year.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, reports, and analyses on a regular basis for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Balance all financial and accounting reports at month end.
  • Auditing and Compliance: Collaborate with auditors to facilitate audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and district policies.
  • Vendor Management: Assist and supervisor vendor relationships, process invoices, and reconcile statements.
  • Financial Analysis: Assist Director of Finance with financial analysis to support decision-making processes and identify areas for cost savings or revenue generation.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize accounting software and other financial tools proficiently to streamline processes and enhance accuracy.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to staff members on financial procedures and systems.
  • Maintain personal, confidential and general office files.
  • Work with BSC Supervisor to organize and process purchasing, invoice vendors, balance end of month statements, request federal and state funds as directed, and maintain purchase order processes.
  • Verify and receive incoming transfers and create receipts for all cash or checks received.
  • Maintain confidentiality for LEA employees and the BSC
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Finance and/or Superintendent.

  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.

  • Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration.
  • Follow all policies or agreements of the BSC.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend work during busy periods or audit cycles.
  • The Staff Accountant will report to the Director of Finance or Chief Financial Officer and collaborate with other departments as needed to support the district’s financial goals and objectives.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
  • Occasional use of personal vehicle to perform job‑related functions.
