Title:Head Start/Great Start Readiness Assistant Classroom Coordinator - Currently located at theNorth Dickinson Early Childhood Center, Dickinson County

Report To: Director of Early Childhood Education

Length of Contract:School Year, Full-Time ( 1,348 hours)

Employment Status:ESP II Union, Non-exempt

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement is High School diploma or equivalent, and must obtain a Child Development Associate credential within two years of hire date, an Associate’s Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or the equivalent; a valid classroom CDA credential; or be able to comply with Michigan Department of Education Great Start Readiness Program credential requirements within the defined timeline.
  • A minimum of one year successful experience in a licensed preschool or child care program preferred.
  • Be physically qualified as determined by a physical examination upon hire.
  • A professional knowledge of child growth and development and a sensitivity to the needs of young children and their families.
  • Able to physically manage, lift and interact with students of a wide range of physical size and ability as needed.
  • Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver’s license.

General Description: To help, assist and give aid and support for the effective and efficient operation of all program related functions of the classroom. Promote good public relations by neat appearance of person and proper attitude.

Essential Functions:
  • Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, rules, regulations and Early Childhood Standards of Conduct.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) and work with parents and volunteers in implementing the High/Scope Curriculum in the classroom and all applicable program mandates throughout the day.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) in providing a classroom atmosphere to promote the social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth according to each child's needs.
  • Work cooperatively with Lead Coordinator (classroom) to maintain a safe and secure classroom environment.
  • Work cooperatively as a team in coordinating classroom activities as it relates to Early Childhood Education and the assigned children and families.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (classroom) in the ongoing development and implementation of each Child Service Plan and Family Partnership Agreement.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) and service area coordinators in all program activities for the assigned families.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) in the development and implementation of the weekly lesson plans.
  • Provide documentation of classroom responsibilities.
  • Maintain child & family records and information in a safe and confidential manner.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) in reporting and documentation of: Lesson plans, anecdotal records and progress on Child Outcome Record data entry and reports travel and expenses, supplies, inventory and other program documentation & record keeping responsibilities as deemed necessary by administration.
  • Work cooperatively with the Lead Coordinator (Classroom) in the maintenance of supplies and the insurance of an inviting and safe classroom for children and adults that promotes learning through the High/Scope Curriculum.
  • Facilitate, with the classroom coordinator, a process by which all adults in the classroom eat with the children and provide appropriate conversation.
  • Shares the responsibility for assisting in classroom meal service and cleanup.
  • Participates in all staff meetings and ongoing training to further develop necessary skills/knowledge.
  • Maintain order and supervision of children and adult volunteers when riding in the vehicle, serving as a bus aide when necessary.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom coordinator and the office in recruitment of children.
  • Attend parent center meetings and participate in home visits and parent/teacher conferences with the classroom coordinator as assigned.
  • Participate in Early Childhood committees, serving as representative for the Center.
  • May be required to serve as Temporary or Substitute Center Director of Licensed Early Childhood Center if meet position qualifications.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Notifies appropriate administrative personnel or designee in case of absence/illness daily or continued absence/illness in a timely manner so as to secure a substitute.
  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
  • Adhere to DIISD Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
  • With reimbursement, may be required to use personal vehicle to perform job related functions.
