Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the OrthoSports department in Birmingham. This full-time, day-shift role supports sterile and non-sterile instrument sets, passes instruments to surgeons, and assists with patient positioning and draping during procedures.

Required education includes a surgical technologist program with clinical components or substantial experience; an associate or technical degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
