Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Surgical Technologist to prepare the operating room with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies, and to hand instruments to the surgeon during procedures.

You will assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients, maintain instrument counts, and support the team to ensure safe, efficient surgeries. BLS certification and completion of a surgical technologist program are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with surgical technologist program or 4 years of applicable experience.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year neuro or cardiac experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year neuro or cardiac experience preferred.
