Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to prepare the operating room, hand instruments to the surgeon, and assist with patient positioning and draping for procedures. The role emphasizes sterile technique and instrument management in a busy Ortho Surgery environment.

Successful candidates will have a High school diploma with surgical tech training or equivalent experience, NBSTSA/NCCT credentials within 30 days, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Surgical technologist credentialing from NBSTSA or NCCT within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes, solutions, and instruments.
• Hand instruments to surgeon during procedures as needed.
• Assist with patient preparation, transportation, positioning, and draping.
• Maintain and track instrument counts to ensure sterility and readiness.

Position Overview

• Bonus: Up to $6,000
• Department: Ortho Surgery
• Schedule: Multiple shifts available
  • Full time: Monday-Friday, shifts start at 6:00am. You can pick between 5/8 hour or 4/10 hours shifts. Based on Manager discretion, limited 3/12 hour shifts are available with verified Ortho experience. Call is required.

Job Description

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instruments counts throughout procedures.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
