SK hynix Memory Solutions America Inc. is seeking a motivated Intern SSD Mechanical Engineer to join our hardware development team in San Jose, CA.

You will design, analyze, and test the mechanical architecture of next‑gen SSDs for enterprise/data center use, with emphasis on thermal management and packaging. You will gain hands‑on experience in prototyping, testing, and data analysis, working with senior engineers to deliver robust mechanical solutions in a high‑stress computing environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering or closely related field.
• Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
• Experience in a lab setting with thermocouples, data loggers, force gauges, or 3D printers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for SSD enclosures, heatsinks, TIMs, and brackets.
• Build prototypes, set up thermal/mechanical tests, and conduct environmental reliability tests.
• Collect and analyze test data to verify compliance with form factors (M.2, E1.S, E3.S, U.2).
• Collaborate with electrical, signal integrity, and test engineers to provide mechanical solutions.
