Job summary

Kong Inc. is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join the global Platform SRE team, building and scaling a multi-region SaaS platform. You’ll run production systems across cloud regions, automate deployments, and improve performance, resilience, and security for Kong’s SaaS offerings.

You will lead Kubernetes-based infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability efforts, contributing to reliability and on-call response in a 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience managing SaaS or PaaS at enterprise scale.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes and fault-tolerant design.
• Strong IaC skills with Terraform/Terragrunt.
• CI/CD pipelines and GitOps (ArgoCD/Atlantis/Helm).
• Programming in Go, Python, or Bash for automation.
• Solid Linux/Unix, networking, load balancers, and distributed systems knowledge.
• Familiarity with API gateway and service mesh technologies.
• Experience with streaming systems like Kafka and observability tools.
• Experience in 24/7/365 production support.

Responsibilities

• Operate and scale Kong’s global SaaS platform across regions and clouds.
• Build, automate, and maintain Kubernetes-based infrastructure and deployment workflows.
• Design and optimize multi-region data and caching layers (PostgreSQL/Redis/ClickHouse/Druid).
• Manage Kong Gateway and Kong Mesh environments in hybrid/distributed setups.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows to automate service delivery.
• Enhance observability and incident response with Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and Thanos.
• Collaborate with security and development teams to ensure reliability and compliance.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations and improve incident postmortems.
• Lead scaling initiatives to improve elasticity, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
