Job summary

Kong in Toronto is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager for Managed Gateways SREs to build and lead a team from the ground up, drive reliability, scalability, and 99.99%+ uptime for Kong’s managed services, and work hands-on in the early stage.

You'll own end-to-end operations, mentor engineers across Americas and Europe, collaborate with product and support, and shape roadmaps with a focus on automation, observability, and fault-tolerant cloud-native systems using Kubernetes and Golang.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading SRE or DevOps teams in high-growth environments.
• Deep expertise designing and operating highly available distributed systems on cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Extensive hands-on Kubernetes production experience.
• Proficiency in Golang for infrastructure automation.
• Strong observability knowledge with Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with incident management and root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with API gateways, service mesh, or network proxies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build Kong’s Managed Gateways SRE team in Toronto from the ground up, defining standards and onboarding.
• Contribute hands-on to critical implementations and reliability work in early stages.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing SRE team supporting global enterprise customers.
• Architect and operate scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native systems in production.
• Own monitoring, incident response, and blameless post-mortems for continuous improvement.
• Drive automation and self-service tooling to reduce toil and improve developer experience.
• Define and track SLOs/SLIs and advocate for architectural best practices.
