Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to improve reliability and performance across our portfolio. You will own reliability outcomes, drive observability, automation, and continuous improvement while partnering with engineering teams to deliver dependable customer experiences.

The role emphasizes end-to-end reliability, on-call responsibility, and collaboration with multiple teams; a strong background in CI/CD and infrastructure as code is required.

Qualifications

• Six or more years of technology experience with system management and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills; knowledge of the insurance/financial services industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Use automation as a primary tool, monitor user experience, respond to production incidents, conduct postmortems, and prevent recurrence.
• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Diagnose availability, latency and performance issues; improve code/configuration to meet SLOs at scale.
• Collaborate with product teams to implement SRE principles and practices.
• Create and use tools to automate toil and improve reliability.
• Support Nationwide services in production as part of a 24x7 on-call rotation.
• Work with architects to design reliability into new and existing systems.
• Ensure reliable interactions with SaaS providers through engineering and relationship management.
