Confidential in the New York area seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead Technical Services, mentor staff, and own complex infrastructure challenges across client environments.

You will guide Help Desk and On-Site Engineers, manage deployments, and administer Microsoft and virtualization platforms while ensuring high-quality, SLA-driven service delivery.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of IT industry experience, including prior support role interfacing with end users.
• MSP industry experience highly desired.
• 3+ years hands-on VMware vSphere administration (4.x-6.x).
• 3+ years hands-on server OS, app, and data backup/recovery experience.
• 3+ years hands-on security tech (firewalls, IPS, web filtering).
• Experience designing and supporting site-to-site and remote access VPNs.
• Experience with Microsoft Server migrations (AD, File Servers, SQL Server, Exchange).
• Knowledge of copper/fiber cabling technologies.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior escalation point for Help Desk and On-Site Engineers to guide complex issues.

Our client serves as a technology support advisor to medium-sized businesses across the New York area and is seeking an experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to join their Technical Services team. This is a confidential search; the client's identity will be shared with qualified candidates as the process moves forward.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environments, enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, and is ready to take on responsibility for guiding the work of Help Desk and On-Site Engineers.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership & Oversight

• Serve as a senior escalation point for Help Desk and On-Site Engineers, providing guidance and mentorship on complex technical issues
• Review and help ensure the quality and consistency of work performed by on-site and help desk staff
• Mentor and provide hands-on training to junior and peer engineers on relevant technologies and best practices
• Act as a technical advocate for the support team, both internally and with clients

Infrastructure & Systems Management

• Lead hardware and service deployment projects, including servers, SANs, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless devices
• Administer and maintain Microsoft environments, including Windows Server, Exchange Server, and Office 365
• Administer and maintain virtualization environments (VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V)
• Design, install, and support site-to-site and remote access VPN solutions
• Perform Microsoft Server migrations (Active Directory, File Servers, SQL Server, Exchange)
• Troubleshoot and resolve server, network, hardware, and software issues across client environments

Client & Project Delivery

• Provide consultative services to clients to determine hardware, software, and infrastructure specifications
• Design computer systems and solutions based on client requirements, and analyze existing environments to identify areas for improvement
• Follow project scopes to deliver technical solutions for growing client environments, completing tasks within scoped budgets
• Document client environments, systems, and resolutions thoroughly for ongoing support
• Properly log, prioritize, assign, track, and resolve incidents and requests within SLA
• Recommend new products and services based on clients' current and future needs

What We're Looking For

Required

• 4-year degree or equivalent industry experience
• 5+ years of IT industry experience, including prior experience in a support role interfacing with end users
• Experience in the Managed Services Provider (MSP) industry highly desired
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere (4.x-6.x) virtual machine management
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with server OS, application, and data backup/recovery
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with security technologies (firewalls, IPS, web filtering)
• Experience designing and supporting site-to-site and remote access VPN solutions
• Experience with Microsoft Server migrations (Active Directory, File Servers, SQL Server, Exchange)
• Working knowledge of copper category and fiber optic cabling technologies
• Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving network connectivity issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication and client-facing skills
• Strong time management skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency support

Preferred

• Advanced field-related certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA, Cisco)
• Experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Office 365, AWS)
• Experience with Fortinet security appliances
• Location: Suffolk County, NY (exact work sites shared upon interview, given the confidential nature of this search)
• Some local travel may be required
